Antibiotics should be used when there are no other options available during pregnancy. There are risk factors associated with the development of fetus; however, these risk factors are not greater than non treatment of illness. Hence, antibiotics should be taken. Doctors usually prescribe supplements to minimize the side effects. For example, taking folic acid supplement can reduce the blocking effects of trimethoprim.
